for Teaching of Asia (NCTA)

The National Consortium
for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), funded by the Freeman
Foundation, is a multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate
teaching and learning about Asia in world history, geography,
social studies, and literature courses.
Launched in October 1998, this nationwide program is a collaboration of the East
Asian Studies programs of five national institutions -- the University
of Washington, the University of Colorado, Indiana
University, Columbia University, and the Five
College Center for East Asian Studies.
Since its inception NCTA has established introductory seminars for teachers in
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware,
Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana,
Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio,
Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas,
Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Under the direction of our Title VI partner institution Indiana University EAPS
has hosted two NCTA seminars: Spring 2006, taught by Ken Klinkner, and Spring
2007, taught by Anne Prescott.
