Into my third year as director of EAPS, I continue
to be amazed by the breadth and depth of our campus resources,
foremost its people. The challenge is to connect the dotted lines,
to bring people and ideas together in meaningful ways that make
Asia at the U of I more vital in every sense. We hope that 2007-08
at EAPS will offer programming and initiatives that you can care
about. I am particularly excited about our China Today series and
our new campus-wide initiative Science and Technology in
the Pacific Century (STIP), a partnership with The Center
for Advanced Study and with our Title VI Consortium partner, the
East Asian Studies Center of Indiana University.
As for EAPS of
late, I penned my two cents on the matter in our Summer 2007 Newsletter.
In
the EAPS mission statement I asked myself this question: if EAPS
is working to capacity what should it be offering our campus and
communities? You might disagree – do tell! Or you might agree
but think that we can be doing more to achieve this mission – again,
do let us know.
