  Learning about China  
  The Learning About China program is designed to introduce students to China through a four-week intensive in-country experience.   
     
  Program & Credits  
  A UIUC professor will lead and teach an introductory course on China during residence at the Chinese university. As part of the course, local Chinese faculty will also be invited to give some lectures on Chinese culture and society. The program will be offered as a regular Summer Session I course and participants will receive three (3) hours of credit. This course fulfills the non-western general education requirement.  
     
  Eligibility  
  The program is open to all registered UIUC undergraduate students, with preference given to students completing their freshman and sophomore years and who have little or no formal class work in the Chinese language and/or China related courses.
Finalists will be invited for an interview.
 
     
  Scholarships  
  travel, 2) travel within China, and 3) basic living expenses in China.  Participants are responsible for Summer Session I tuition and fees plus a deposit of $150 and an administrative charge of $150. The $150 deposit will be returned when all requirements of the program have been completed.  
     
  Application Process  
  China; leadership qualities demonstrated through extra-curricula campus and community service and a required essay. The essay must include why the student wants to participate in the program and what she/he intends to do with the experience following program completion, including formal course work in Chinese studies and campus and community outreach.
