  Inside China Workshop
11-13 November 2005 & 17-19 March 2006
 
     
  Two weekend intensive workshop on China — Past and Present.  The course is designed to provide  middle and high school teachers with a grounded knowledge of China that will enhance their teaching.  
     
  Program & Credits  
  The November session features a series of presentation and discussions on China's past.  Areas covered include Chinese thought, lore, epic literature, and social models.  In addition there will be an introduction to the Chinese language and its writing system.  The March session concentrates on China of today.  Following a two-part sketch of Chinese history from 1840 to 1992, the liveliness of China's pop culture, literature, media and social models of today are examined.     
     
  The workshop features a total of 25 contact hours.  Participants must develop and submit a polished and articulated curriculum unit(s) by Friday, 14 April, 2006 to receive 25 CPDUs for the Inside China seminar.

  Bonus  Those participants who complete the workshop will be eligible to apply for the summer 2006  Inside China Trip (ICT).  The ICT (23 June ?\ 15 July 2005) will pay extended visits to both Xi'an and Beijing.  
     
  Application & Cost   
  The registration deadline is Friday, 21 October 2005.  Applications will be reviewed on that date and those selected will be contacted and asked to send in a non-refundable registration fee of $50.  The cost of the workshop, which include room, meals and a limited travel allowance, is underwritten by a grant from the Freeman Foundation.
