The Illinois/Indiana Title VI East
Asia National Resource Center Consortium theme is Extending Professional
Knowledge. One of our joint 4-year projects, with learning, teaching,
and outreach components, is the Science and Technology in the Pacific
Century (STIP) initiative. STIP builds on Illinois’ national profile in agriculture
and engineering, and Indiana’s in the biological and information
sciences to consider the impact of East Asia Science and technology
on business and society in both East Asia and the United States.
In
Year 1 (06-07) of the STIP project, each campus held steering committee
meetings to discuss directions the project will take on that campus,
potential areas of collaboration for both campuses, and strategies
for raising funds from outside sources. In Year 2 (07-08), EAPS
will team up with the University of Illinois Center for Advanced
Study (CAS) for a year-long initiative on the U of Illinois campus
(click here for more information). In Year 3 (08-09)
EAPS and EASC will jointly conduct a national seminar on STIP topics
to be determined in Years 1 and 2. Year 4 (09-10) will be a year
of reflection and determining what, if any, future directions this
project might take.
For more information on Year 2 STIP activities, including the
most recent calendar, go to the Center for Advanced Study website
at http://www.cas.uiuc.edu/
